World Quality Day
The Institute of Engineers (India), Kuwait Chapter celebrated World Quality Day Co-sponsored by TCB Cert. Worldwide LLC (Training & Certification Bureau) on 12th November 2009. In 1990, the UN declared second Thursday of November as World Quality Day. World Quality Day encourages individuals and organizations to focus on the importance of quality, growth and prosperity, and demonstrate their commitment to Quality excellence.The Chairman of IEI Kuwait chapter Eng. Joseph Panicker inaugurated the seminar and welcomed the gathering. Eng Syed M H Zaidi , Ex Officio CM of IEI has highlighted the importance of Quality .
Eng. M S Ray , Managing Director of TCB Cert Worldwide delivered a speech on “Business Excellence through Quality” and gave a brief of Historic Evolution of Quality ,Quality movements Worldwide including India, Contributions of Quality Gurus , EFQM Business Excellence model ,Role of IRCA and CQI in developing Certification programs for Auditors of Management System. Eng Ray started his speech with the most famous Quote of Bharat Ratna JRD TATA "One must forever strive for excellence or even perfection in any task - however small and never be satisfied with the second best"
The World Quality Day celebration was a source of great inspiration for all professionals. IEI-Kuwait chapter has decided to celebrate the World Quality Day every year to promote Quality as a driver for business and excellence.
The seminar was attended by a large number of professionals from various countries and organizations in Kuwait. IEI, Kuwait Chapter thanked Kuwait Society of Engineers for their support for this event by offering their premises for this Quality Seminar. Eng George Antonius Ex-officio General Secretary gave the vote of thanks to all invited guests and members of IEI.

IEI 42nd Engineers’ Day
The IEI Kuwait Chapter celebrated 42nd Engineers Day 2009 with warmth and vigour to celebrate the birth anniversary of India’s great Engineer cum Statesman Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarya at Multipurpose Hall of Arab Organizations Building.
The theme for this year’s Engineers’ Day was "ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE" having global importance.
His Excellency Shri. Ajai Malhotra, the Ambassador of India to the State of Kuwait inaugrated the function by lighting the lamp.
Engr. Joseph Panicker Chairman IEI, Kuwait Chapter welcomed the engineers, dignitaries, sponsors, and guests and emphasized to utilize the engineering solutions to combat climate changes. He informed about various activities the IEI Kuwait Chapter is conducting in relation to save the planet Earth. He informed about IEI Kuwait Chapter’s participation for planting trees in Kuwait, on Volunteer Day, with the support of Voluntary Work Centre under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Amtal Al Sabha and inauguration of IEI-ICSK Green Club with emphasis to extend to all the schools. He further informed about IEI obtaining full membership of Engineers Mobility Forum which will enable Indian Engineers to practice the profession in par with the other member countries in this jurisdiction. He elaborated IEI role as a founder member of World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO) and requested all the members to attend the international conference on ‘Alternative Energy Applications, Option or Necessity?’ which is being arranged by Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE).
His Excellency Shri. Ajai Malhotra, the Ambassador of India to the State of Kuwait lauded the achievements of Shri. M. Visvesvarya and elaborated India’s role in the global complex to combat climate change.
Dr. Salah Al Mudh’hi, the Chief Guest of Engineers’ Day celebration, released the IEI Souvenir 2009. He emphasized upon the importance of combating the climate change and appreciated IEI’s role in creating the awareness about this topic. He requested the audience to avail this opportunity to attend the international conference which will be held in Kuwait. The Chief Guest presented mementos to Executive Committee members of 2008 for their valuable contribution to IEI Kuwait Chapter activities. Engr. Ahmed Al Mershed, Deputy Chairman of Voluntary Work Centre, appreciated IEI Kuwait Chapter role in the awareness of environmental protection and other related subject and their association with the Voluntary Work Centre. Mr. Khalid M. Shuaibi, from the Meteorology Department, DGCA, made a brief presentation about the theme. His presentation was supported with graphical data which was very enlightening. Mr. Mahmoud G. Abdullah General Manager, Fleet Marine Operation Group, KOTC spoke about marine pollution created by the vessels and ships and informed about the steps taken to prevent water pollution. He also informed about the new regulations which has to be followed by tankers while entering the Gulf Waters. Dr. Ali Muhammad Khuraibet, General Manager, ECO-Environmental Consultant, the key note speaker for the evening, presented the various Engineering solutions. He elaborated about the latest techniques to combat carbon-di-oxide with artificial trees and other practical mitigation processes.
All the dignitaries and honorary guests were presented with saplings in support of promoting environmental protection. The function concluded with vote of thanks by IEI General Secretary, Engr. Sushant Chakravarty. He thanked all the dignitaries, guests, sponsors, members for making the event a grand success. He thanked the Ambassador and his wife for their valuable time to attend and grace the function. He also thanked the Embassy staff for their support to IEI. He thanked the Chairman/ Managing Director and the entire staff of Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development for their support to IEI, Kuwait Chapter. He thanked the ladies wing members for their participation and actively promoting awareness among the community to use natural perishable resources to protect the environment. Dinner was served at the end of the program.

Kuwait Society of Engineers(KSE) is organizing an International Congress on Alternatives Energy Applications: Option or Necessity? in collaboration with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) . The congress will be under the Patronage of H.H. the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al- Sabah and is scheduled to be held on November 3-5, 2009. The objectives of the congress are to explore the latest developments in alternative energy technology and to promote applications of clean and sustainable energy in the region.
This is a very rare opportunity and we encourage IEI members and all Indian Engineers to participate in this world class event. It is a matter of prestige for all of us that Dr. Rajendra Pachori, Chairman, International Panel on Climate change (IPCC) and Nobel peace prize winner who shared the prize with Al Gore, Ex- Vice president of USA.
