IEI – 44th ENGINEERS’ DAY 2011
Institution of Engineers (India), Kuwait Chapter, celebrated 44th Engineers Day at Crowne Plaza on 10th October 2011. Theme of this year was “Engineering Preparedness for Disaster Mitigation”. Function was inaugurated by Mr. H K Mohan, First Secretary, Embassy of India. It started with the lighting of the lamp. Engr. Ahmed Al Subih, Director General- Kuwait Municipality graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Engr Ahmed Al Mershed, Undersecretary Ministry of State National Assembly and Deputy Chairman Voluntary Work Centre was the Guest of Honour. General (Retd) Musaed S Al-Guwainem presented the key note speech and discussed about the role of civil defense and it’s preparedness to deal with any disaster in the country. Engr. Shaikha Al Arfaj presented the key note speech and discussed about the positive thoughts in human mind to deal with disasters. Engr. Pugazhendi Sundararajan delivered his key note speech explaining the theme of the day.
IEI, Kuwait Chapter Chairman Engr P. Sundararajan started with his welcome address and briefed the members and guests about the IEI. He informed that The Institution of Engineers (India) was established in 1920 and the Royal Charter was granted to the Institution in 1935. The Institution of Engineers (India) Kuwait Chapter was established in November 1995 and it is actively involved in promoting the general advancement of Engineering amongst Engineers by conducting free seminars and workshops on topics related to Engineering and Technology.
Engr. Ahmed Al Subih in his address said, “Kuwait Municipality is also taking part in disaster management in Kuwait in many ways and we make awareness both among citizens and residents. I also very much appreciate the efforts of Indian Engineers for their contribution in the development and execution of Engineering Projects in Kuwait. I congratulate IEI, Kuwait Chapter and all engineers on this occasion.” He also released the Souvenir 2011 on the occasion.
Engr. Ahmed Al Mershed expressed his happiness on the occasion and appreciated the members for their dedication and good work. He cheered the audience with his inspirational speech and unstinted support. Event was also attended by the representatives of Kuwait Society of Engineers, ministries, contracting and consulting firms, industrialists, iei members and many more.
Mementos were presented to all the engineers and guests who have made valuable contribution to the IEI Kuwait Chapter. Golden sponsors of the event were honoured for their continued support. Gifts were presented by the dignitaries to the winners of the competitions conducted for the best theme article and best cover page design. 44th Engineers Day celebration ended with a vote of thanks by the General Secretary, Engr. Rishabh Nath Jain.
